Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy, and the healing art of Reiki is a practice that restores balance and harmony within the body by the transmission of spiritually guided healing energy through the hands of the practitioner. During sessions, focus is given to the alignment of the body’s energy system through the 7 main Chakras, which can be described as spinning wheels of energy. The Chakras can sometimes get blocked from physical or emotional experiences, causing an imbalance and instability throughout the body’s energy system. During the Reiki healing the Chakras are re-aligned until they are all spinning perfectly in balance with each other, bringing about a general feeling of well-being.

A Reiki session is relaxing and soothing and can calm the mind and clear away stress and other negative emotions. When practiced in the traditional way, Reiki can help to improve your physical and emotional well being.

I have provided Reiki sessions for many people with a wide range of illnesses and problems, most of which can be related to stress in some form or another, and Reiki has helped to ease their symptoms in a relaxed environment.

Reiki can be provided in conjunction with any medical treatment you may currently be receiving.

To establish how Reiki can best help you, the first appointment includes an assessment which takes place before any energy therapy is given, a brief medical history will be taken, and a client consent form signed.
During the healing you will be fully clothed and laying on a treatment couch, or sitting in a chair if this is more comfortable for you. I will place my hands either on or just above your body at various energy points. This is a pain-free and very pleasant experience. You can completely relax – in fact many clients fall asleep during the session – or you can stay awake and talk, or ask questions during the session.

Reiki appointments are normally approximately 1 hour, with the sessions generally lasting for about 45 minutes, although sometimes longer sessions are required - this depends on what is needed by each individual client.

Some of the more common signs that your body is releasing a block or shifting energy during a session are: Crying, laughing, coughing, swallowing, twitches and jerks, burping, breathing changes, changes of skin colour and seeing bright colours. These are all normal and are a good sign that your energy is shifting and re-balancing itself. Sometimes you will notice no signs or changes at all - this is also normal and is not a sign that the treatment isn’t working.

After receiving Reiki, as in any complementary/holistic therapy, it is possible for:

  Symptoms to reduce in intensity

  Symptoms to temporarily increase in intensity and then reduce

  A feeling as if experiencing flu-like symptoms, without actually being ill, which passes within a day or so.

Please do listen to the messages that your body is giving you:

  if you feel like resting more than usual, then do so

  If you feel like drinking more water, as if you were flushing out your system, then please drink more

  If there is anything you are not sure about, then please do ring your Reiki practitioner

Please note any particular reactions (including dates) which you feel you may attribute to your Reiki session, and bring it to any future appointment.

Reiki can complement any current medical or psychological treatment you may already be receiving, but it should NEVER be seen as a replacement for such treatment.

Reiki practitioners will NEVER diagnose conditions or prescribe medication or treatment, and will always recommend referral to a GP for the treatment of any medical/psychological issues.
